Dracones is a non-profit organization aimed at protecting, enhancing, and promoting Italian fantasy literary, artistic, and cultural production.

It was founded with the goal of supporting those who write or wish to write fantasy in Italy, offering practical tools useful for building solid and lasting authorial paths, and creating a meeting point for all those who share values such as inclusivity, professionalism, and respect.

We believe that through collaboration and commitment, it is possible to make a difference and give Italian fantasy the spaces it deserves.

Dracones: Association for Italian Fantasy Writing was founded in 2025 from an idea by Gloria Bernareggi and Sephira Riva, fueled by the passion of a group of fantasy writers who decided to collaborate to transform the dream of a welcoming and respectful cultural space into reality.

In recent years, the fantasy genre has seen significant growth, gaining an increasingly prominent space within the publishing market. In Italy, however, this trend still focuses predominantly on foreign literature, while Italian fantasy fiction remains confined to a niche segment. This represents a true anomaly in the publishing landscape, and we asked ourselves what could be done to create more relevant spaces for Italian fantasy.

Dracones is our answer.

In a landscape dominated by personal economic interests and characterized by the fragmentation of the cultural environment, we believe that associativism is a radical and necessary choice to face the challenges of the present and carry forward the causes that matter to us. For this reason, we chose to establish Dracones as an APS (Association for Social Promotion), because associations are a powerful tool of democracy: they operate through elected bodies and promote participation, solidarity, and the pluralism of ideas.

Dracones is primarily aimed at those who write fantasy at a professional or amateur level. Among our initiatives, you will find:

• the organization of events, activities, and gatherings for members, both online and in person;
• accessible and democratic training opportunities;
• the provision of specific resources for authors, such as professional databases and legal information;
• the uniting of forces to face the current challenges of the creative industry and fantasy as a literary genre.
